Triad Freightliner, Inc. was started in the winter of 1977. Larry
Tysinger was the first employee and began operations in a trailer
on Elm Street while the current facility was being built. Triad
Freightliner, Inc. was a part of a group of three Freightliner
dealerships owned by Fluor Corporation, Irvine, California. Fluor
also owned Goldston Leasing in Eden, North Carolina. The other
dealerships were located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and
Jacksonville, Florida. In 1982, Fluor decided to sell its
dealerships and leasing company in an effort to down size their
asset base.
Roger Penske purchased the dealerships and leasing company, but
sold the dealerships to Freightliner Corporation because they did
not want one of their largest customers to be a dealer. In turn,
Larry Tysinger subsequently purchased Triad Freightliner from
Freightliner Corporation in 1983. The name was then changed from
Triad Freightliner, Inc. to Triad Freightliner of Greensboro,
Inc. (Triad). Larry has over 35 years experience in the truck
industry.
The rest of Triad's successful history is due to its employees.
Triad has become the largest Class 8 (heavy duty truck) dealer in
North Carolina. Another note of interest is that Triad purchased
the first serial number trucks produced at the Mount Holly plant
and the Cleveland, North Carolina plant.
While Triad's history is interesting, Larry believes that
Triad is on the verge of even greater things to come as we
continue to grow orr customer base, the employees and the
success of the business.
1997 saw the establishment of a new dealership, SelecTrucks of
Greensboro LLC. SelecTrucks is a joint venture between Triad
Freightliner and Freightliner Corporation with Triad Freightliner
as the Managing Partner. This exclusive used truck sales
organization began operation June 1, 1997.
Product lines offered by Triad Freightliner are
exclusive to Freightliner Corporation. These include Class 8 tractors and trucks, Class 5,6,7
medium duty trucks, the new Century Class 8 tractors, Custom Chassis for step
vans and motor homes. (Triad sold the first
American LaFrance fire and emergency vehicle sold in the US under
the new Freightliner ownership. Triad also sold the first
Freightliner school buses ever purchased by the State of North
Carolina).
Larry Tysinger served as Chairman of the National Freightliner
Dealer Council in 1989, 1996 and 1997. Triad Freightliner serves as a Beta dealer
for Freightliner Corporation and Mercedes-Benz Credit Corp's ever
evolving hardware and software computer applications.
