Built to take on your toughest challenges, the FLD SD is engineered for severe environments and extreme conditions. With a proven track record for durability and dependability, the FLD SD combines time-tested performance with the latest advances in engineering and technology. It features a heavy-duty chassis with frame rails rated to 120,000 psi and a durable yet lightweight reinforced aluminum cab that minimizes vibration and noise. Available with a variety of engine options up to 550 horsepower and 1850 foot pounds of torque, the FLD SD can be easily customized to meet your specific operational needs.


With the classic good looks of Freightliner's traditional heavy-duty highway trucks, the FLD SD has the raw strength and agility required to muscle through severe environments and extreme conditions to deliver maximum productivity. Powered by the 12.7 liter, 455 horsepower Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine, with several other Detroit Diesel and Caterpillar engines available as options, the FLD SD is the right truck for the toughest applications. Standard features include an Eaton Fuller 10 speed manual transmission, Meritor front and rear axles, and a variety of optional front and rear suspensions designed to increase operational efficiency and performance. Available as a truck or tractor, offering a day cab and three SleeperCab configurations, the FLD SD is one tough truck you can count on.
Maximum Traction
Freightliner TufTrac™ suspension is designed to provide maximum traction in high articulation environments. The rubber-isolated pivot points and parabolic taper-leaf springs ensure a smooth ride, whether loaded or unloaded, minimizing wear and tear on the truck and the driver.

High Capacity Radiators
The FLD SD is available with optional high capacity radiators to match both engine and front axle applications. A 1400 square inch radiator is available for set-forward front axle configurations, while a 1350 square inch radiator applies to the set-back front axle model, allowing FLD SD engines to keep cool while pushing performance to the maximum.

Noise Reduction
For quiet and comfort within the cab, the exhaust system is mounted using a vibration-dampening rubber-in-sheer isolator. In addition, the clutch linkage employs a dual isolator design that reduces noise and rattle.

  • Raised fuel tanks provide excellent ground clearance. There are no fittings at the bottom of either fuel tank and no crossover lines between tanks.

  • The optional wraparound windows provide a great view for safety while backing up.
